He celebrated his sixteenth birthday in 2020, and Coen Skrypnek is already established as one of the top downhill mountain bike racers under 17 in the world. His trajectory as a mountain biker has been consistently upwards and he has a lot of pedal left!
Finishing 2nd overall in the BC Cup Series, he spent most every race on the podium in 2019 as a first year rider in the under 17 UCI category. It is his steady progress in the past years that has been the most impressive. Coen has made great gains as a rider and racer, but also in his physical strength and size. While many competitors are making incremental gains, his have been, comparatively, exponential and there is still a lot of room for him to grow.
Coen’s six foot, 171lb frame is that of a man-sized athlete, with exceptional skill, strength and stamina. His body is a canvas that can be further honed as his skills continue to improve.
Additionally, his courage and comfort on the most dangerous or treacherous terrain as well as in the air, makes Coen one of the most formidable up and coming riders entering the UCI Downhill World Cup Junior race scene in 2021.
Beyond his riding and athleticism, Coen is an exceptional person with a charisma few people his age have. He is an egaging leader among his peers. This includes the biking community, his classmates at school, teachers, his employers, sponsors, adults in the community and any parent who meets up with him. He has a kind and empathetic demeanor, and is fun and enjoyable to be around.
Coen is a model community citizen and a disciplined straight “A” student with a >90% academic average. He is a regular recipient of awards for academic achievements, physical education and citizenship. His great habits allow him to excel while seeming at ease.
As a mentor and leader, Coen takes his position as a role model seriously and he excels at it. He never passes up an opportunity to demonstrate his kindness and patience with those who look to him for input and support. This was clear in his time spent coaching youn riders, or mentoring the groms. This was especially visible in his 2020 video edit "Big Coen. Little Cohen".
